Kaiser, I wouldn't be surprised if he's been told by Moyes to preserve energy. He seemed to lay off the hard work at about the same time that we stopped pressing so far up the field.
I don't think he's unwilling to work. He used to walk off the field wearing buckets.

It's hard imo to criticize Antonio as overall he has done well for us up front without even being a forward, and let's not forget he is our PL top goalscorer. But in the summer he needs replacing, not competition, but replacing, then I think he could be useful out wide, but wouldn't know if Moyes would be thinking that too.

People arent blinded, from when football resumed after the pandemic to the start of this season his form was very very good. His goalscoring record was good and many were touting him for England.
This season after the first few games he has been shit yes, but lets not pretend he hasnt been very very good at leading the line in recent memory.

Antonio doesn't take free-kicks or penalties and is 4th top goalscorer in the PL.
I'm forced to conclude you are talking shit.

Yeah, I was watching it and wondering why Fornals managed to put in the effort to close down defenders, even though Antonio was closer and apparently not going to bother. It happened quite a few times in the second half

You don’t rate Antonio, Anthony. We get it.
Now go and cry into your Lampard shirt as his team got smashed by Newcastle last night.

Antonio has never been able to consistently control the ball. There have been occasions where his strength has got him there before a defender. Thats it. People are blinded by a run of one/two-touch goals. One goal from open play in his last 21 games for us. He didn't touch the ball on that one either...

I noticed that Antonio doesn’t seem to be as much as a nuisance to defenders as he used to be.
He used to close defenders down and chase lost causes, but certainly didn’t last night.
Dunno whether it’s down to fatigue, or he’s been told not to it to maintain his fitness.

Makes not signing a striker even more incomprehensible. Remember well the year John Lyle spent tracking Kerry Dixon ( who was dicking him about as it turned out) at least he had another option up his sleeve and Leroy turned out to be a decent signing. Doing nothing has been an act of self harm pure and simple

Even allowing for all his trips to and games for Jamaica Antonios previous record of starts in a season is
2017/18 16 2018/19 26 2019/20 20 2020/21 25
He has started 26 times this season. He has trimmed down a bit but should be more durable but he is now on the limit of the last 4 seasons At a point where we have 14 league games and hopefully a full run of Europa & FA Cup games to come. Oko Flex or Perkins HAVE to take some of the load off soon.

"Also, Antonio’s lack of strength when fighting off defenders is really concerning. Never seen anyone fall over so much. He’s a big guy, what’s going on there?"
I think you can see the answer in the way he reacted to not being given a foul against Watford. He's frustrated about being fouled out of the game, so he's falling to the ground instead of struggling against the fouling defender.

Although there is a noticeable gap between the top 6 or 7 and the rest, there's only Manchester City who would expect to play well and dominate every game. All of the other chasing teams have had a few average performances, resulting in an unexpected draw or defeat.
We seem to be winning games when we're not playing well. Let's hope that a few better performances will be along soon.
I'm a fan of Benrahma, but sadly we didn't even look like the latest version of West Ham until Lanzini came on. I view him in the same category as Vlasic, tidy footballer, not very effective. Our best players saw us through in the end, apart from Antonio who had a largely anonymous 90 minutes.
Fair play to Bowen, he's gone beyond my expectations and is crucial to us these days. At least it takes the focus off of Antonio, even if he's played shit for the last month.
Oh, and Moyes played a blinder with his pre match comment that Zouma is a club matter and made it a dead end conversation topic.

A 31 year old man with hammies like tissue paper decides that an extra 10 games a year is a good idea.
What could possibly go wrong?

The problem with Antonio at the moment is more than not scoring. It’s that he can’t even control the ball. He can’t hold off defenders and bring anyone into play. And when he manages to lay off a pass he over hits it.
So he’s becoming a bit useless as a forward. I don’t see anything he’s doing that’s worthwhile or benefiting the team greatly. He really needs a rest in my opinion.
I feel like if your not scoring goals as a striker then you need to be doing the other things. I’m sure Oko-Flex, Perkins etc can do the other things. So why not play them?
Also, Antonio’s lack of strength when fighting off defenders is really concerning. Never seen anyone fall over so much. He’s a big guy, what’s going on there?

Alf’s at 60 do you not think this is about where we should be and where we should have been more demanding as a support? After all it seems the only change is the team actually puts in a shift…..

Can’t believe Antonio’s dip in form. He’s gone from our best player in the 11 to our worst. Quite some plight.
Don’t think he even had a shot at Watford. Lanzini put one on a plate for him six yards out and he didn’t even connect with the ball.

Boring game but good result considering how we’ve struggled against the basement dwellers this season. We’re ultimately a counterattacking team. We don’t quite have enough class to consistently break set defences down. We barely managed it against Watford.
I wouldn’t mind Dennis as competition to Antonio. You would have thought that he’d have the sort of doggedness that Moyes admires.

Still baffles me with Moyes and his subs. Only the one and not one youngster on the bench. I don't think any of the u23's will ever start a game this season now. Ridiculous. Antonio should be replaced by Okoflex at times,to stop him strolling through games . What do we have to lose especially against Watford. Seeing the likes of Frederick's continually on the bench is just a waste of space

Manuel, so I can get some context, how old are you? I'm 60 in July and haven't enjoyed such dizzy heights two seasons in a row, ever.
There have been glimpses, but it's always gone tits up.
The sale of Ferdinand when we had a seriously promising team was a colossal mistake which began an exodus of so many talented players, and soon after, relegation.
We're 4th at the moment. Fucking 4th! So much better than being 18th, or in the Championship.
Enjoy it, before it all goes tits up once more.
